Chapters 14 and 15 Summary

In chapter fourteen, Valentine's Day is approaching and Ruby wants to tell Nate she's worried about him but can't bring herself to do so. He announces big plans for their evening but has to skip school that day to help his father with errands for the business. He doesn't show up that evening at the appointed though Ruby knows he and his father are at home. When he appears two hours late, Ruby refuses to let the situation drop. She says she's worried but Nate counters, saying that what happens between him and his dad is private. Ruby touches his shoulder and discovers a large bruise and welt, just beginning to rise and discolor.
