Chapter 5 Summary

In chapter five, Ruby arrives at the mall by foot but immediately takes a bus to the apartment Marshall shares with Rogerson, the boy who supplies drugs to Ruby. They spend some time together and when Ruby is getting dressed Marshall hands her the house key which has fallen out of her pocket. The key is on a small fob with the words "Wildflower Ridge" on it, the name of the subdivision where Cora and Jamie live.

Ruby leaves Marshall's and goes to the mall though she wants desperately to pocket the two hundred dollars for a time she might really need the money. She knows that Cora would be furious if she does so she heads out and buys herself some new clothes. As she's leaving the mall she sees a jewelry kiosk with a "help wanted sign."
