Chapter 27 "In the Dead of the Night" Summary

Charlotte's family picks her up at the bus station for Christmas break and drives her the rest of the way home on the dangerous road through the mountains. Her brothers, Buddy and Sam, are asking her questions about the basketball players and she is short with her answers to them. Her family has been asking her all kinds of questions about Dupont and they all make her nervous. Her mother notices that Charlotte is deflecting the questions and Charlotte is so worried about her mother finding out what she has done that she wishes they would have an accident on the road.
