Chapter 20 Summary

Reluctantly, Eve decides she will attend the gala event at Roarke's house, knowing that is the only way she is going to provoke C.J. into coming out of hiding. As she stands with Mavis, she marvels at the exotic foods being served, and the upper-class company she is in.

Eve sees Chief Tibble approach, and the chief puts her at ease by remarking on her glamorous appearance. Laughing, Eve makes small talk with the man, until he changes the topic, complimenting her on her excellent police work. They discuss the case for some time, until Eve spots Marco Angelini, and excuses herself to apologize to him about the trouble she caused him and his family. Marco is unmoved, and calls Eve an opportunist, and a media whore. Roarke is suddenly at Eve's side, stopping the conversation in it's tracks. Eve tells Roarke...
