Chapter 19 Summary

Eve decides to try and lull C.J. into a false sense of security by playing on his trauma over finding Louise Kirski dead. However, when she arrives at the newsroom, Eve is unsuccessful in finding him. Sidetracked by Larinda Mars, the snooty "social reporter" at Channel 75, Eve sees that the woman is fishing for an invite to Roarke's party that evening. Eve decides to use this to her benefit and asks the woman about C.J. Larinda tells Eve lots of little tidbits about C.J., and Eve listens with interest. Her heart is pounding as she now realizes without a doubt that C.J. is the killer.

Eve decides to go to the man's apartment, and, remembering her struggle to become Detective, requests Officer Peabody as her backup. When they arrive at the apartment, there seems to be no one home...
