Summary

In Chapter 41, Grant uses a service elevator to take Daunis upstairs. She pretends she is confident and decides she will tell Grant she just wanted to take pictures of his furniture, which he bought when her grandfather died. Because Daunis has gotten so much conflicting information, she is not paying full attention when Grant lets her into an ordinary hotel room instead of the suite she expects. He pushes her onto the bed and rapes her.

Going back downstairs in the elevator, Daunis tries to convince herself that nothing happened and returns to the dance. She tells Jamie she wants to skip the after-party hosted by Grant. After they leave, she directs him to drive to college and park near the student union so they can talk. Daunis punches Jamie when he admits that it was his idea to get close to...
