Firekeeper's Daughter Overview

In Firekeeper’s Daughter, a novel by Angeline Boulley, a half-White, half-Anishinaabe young woman named Daunis Fontaine is just starting college while struggling with her identity and her place in her tribe. Daunis’s struggles intensify after her best friend is killed as the indirect result of drugs and Daunis is asked to serve as a confidential informant for the FBI. Daunis seeks a stand that will allow her to protect her tribe and help bring justice for Lily’s death and the deaths of other young people who have died as a result of the drug epidemic. Themes in the novel include finding one's identity, the impact of drugs on society, and the role of strong women.
