Summary

In Chapter 8, it turns out the sounds Daunis and Jamie heard were only firecrackers. Jamie freezes when Daunis asks if he thought they were gunshots.

Later, when Travis tries to talk to Lily again, Daunis puts herself between Lily and Travis. Travis asks Lily if he can talk to her without her “goon” (72). Daunis warns that is a bad idea. He is holding a coke bottle with a coffee filter floating inside, a sign he is high on meth. Lily begs Travis to go away and promises she will talk to him later. Daunis asks Lily not to talk to Travis alone, but Lily argues she can take care of herself.
