Part 5, Chapter 32 Summary

Ian has never planted potatoes before, so he buys a book from Ireland that tells him how. He keeps the book with him as he attends to the fields. Jamie asks him how to tell when the potatoes are ready to pick. Ian reads the book to find out, but Fergus breaks in and tells him to pick one and see if it's ready. It makes sense to Jamie, so he does. He pulls up a good sized bunch by the leafy tops and out pops ten to fifteen good sized potatoes. They are all so excited by this that Jamie announces they will have dinner in the fields by the potatoes.
