Part 2, Chapter 14 Summary

Fergus arrives with more letters for Jamie to read and Claire to reproduce. He's doing a fine job of it. Mary Hawkins accompanies Claire to the hospital several times. On the last visit she tells Claire that she's in love. Claire wonders who she's in love with and asks her. Mary tells Claire that she would never marry a Frenchman, because they put their thing between a woman's legs and force it inside of her. Claire finds this amusing and tells Mary they need to have a chat.

Claire is asked to assist Monsieur Forez at the hospital in setting a bone fracture. He gives the patient a liquid to slow the blood flow, then pierces the inside of the man's thigh with a metal pin to deaden some of the pain. Claire finds this fascinating. Monsieur keeps calling her "sister...
