Summary

In Chapter 23, Maverick notes that Seven's life goes on as usual, despite the other problems in Maverick's life. Maverick is thrilled when Seven says “Da-da-da-da-da,” even though Seven spits out baby food while saying it. Maverick gives up trying to feed him baby food and provides rice cereal instead. Maverick has not yet told Faye he will not graduate, fearing her reaction. He knows he cannot tell her about Red. Maverick is furious about Red having Dre's watch but still feels he needs proof Red killed Dre. When Faye arrives home, she immediately asks if Maverick has seen the counselor at school. He says the counselor “told me what I need to do in order to graduate” (283), hiding behind the fact that this is “sorta true.” Faye says she has faith in Maverick.
