Summary

Part 2 is titled Growth. In Chapter 12, Maverick looks back on the sex as incredible and is surprised at how different it felt without “protection.” He and Lisa lie together until they hear her mother's car in the drive. Maverick runs out through the window. He asks to see Lisa again, but she does not commit. By the next day, he is confused. He considered the sex a sign they were making up, but she still refuses to take his phone calls. Maverick decides to call Dre, having momentarily forgotten Dre is dead. Maverick picks up extra hours at the store, knowing he needs the money after being off a week after Dre's death. Maverick notes that Mr. Wyatt sits outside with other business owners while Maverick works. Maverick manages a moment in Mr. Wyatt's office, thinking Lisa would not have that number blocked...
