Section 10: Chapter 17 & Chapter 18 Summary

In Chapter 17, Nest sends the others home to begin decorating the Christmas tree while she visits the graves of her mother and grandparents. As she kneels beside the graves, Two Bears appears and encourages Nest to continue trying to reach the gypsy morph. As Gask watches Nest talk with Two Bears, Gask plans to go after the Indian instead of Nest since Two Bears is the most powerful of Nest's allies. When Gask approaches Two Bears, the Indian warns him that his understanding of humans is limited by his lack of empathy which will be his undoing. Gask, Penny, Twitch and the ur'doch surround Two Bears, but the snow funnels around him and he is gone when the air clears.
