Section 7: Chapter 12 & Chapter 13 Summary

In Chapter 12, though it has been fifteen years since John and Josie have seen each other, it could have been yesterday as the emotions are frozen in time. The conversation between them is awkward as Josie explains she has brought cookies for Nest. They talk about their lives since they last met, and Ross explains that Little John is his adopted son and he needs Nest's help with him. Josie assures Ross that he can always ask her for help too. Stopping at the Quik Stop, Larry calls FBI Agent Robinson to report that John Ross is at Nest's house. Waiting for Nest to return, Josie and Ross talk, and she invites him to dinner, but he declines.

In Chapter 13, Ross thinks about Josie and wonders why he is so obsessed with her. Around 6 p.m., Robert Heppler phones...
