Chapter 18 "Lifeguard" Summary
Mr. Sterling has asked to see Charlotte to discuss the paper she handed in. His office is in the Dupont Centre for Neuroscience. Charlotte, not knowing why he wants to speak with her, tries to decipher every look, every move that he makes as he scans her paper. He asks her some questions about the assignment and then attempts to summarize her paper. Charlotte is worried that she has done something wrong and has failed the paper. He tells her that he is not interested in her attempt to undermine evolution; that has been done before. What impresses him is her use of the literature out there and the way she is able to project her theory. He tells her that it is an impressive piece of work. He suggests that she spend a few hours a week working in his labs. Charlotte is ecstatic.
