Chapter 9 "Socrates" Summary

Jojo arrives at the Rotheneum for an appointment with Coach Roth. The Rotheneum is the office section of the Buster Bowl building and is described as opulent. The money is received from endorsements from major companies and has made this the nicest building on campus. Jojo tells Coach that his classes are all easy classes and he wants to takes a high-level philosophy course. Coach tells him that it is the highest level and Jojo admits that he knows it will be hard, but he wants to learn something. Coach gets angry and reminds Jojo that he needs to be focused on basketball and shouldn't be distracting himself with other things that aren't important. Jojo gets equally upset and accuses Coach of thinking he's stupid just like everybody else. Coach reminds Jojo.....
