"Lost Province Entr'acte" Summary

Charlotte writes a letter home to her parents. She has a hard time writing anything that doesn't sound quaint. She describes what life is like at Dupont, realizing that she is editing a lot. Mid-point in the letter she realizes that she has to decide whether to tell the truth or not. She wants help from her mother but in the end decides that her mother won't be able to handle the truth and would take her out of school. She doesn't want people to think that she quit because it was immoral. So she decides to lie to her parents.

She considers calling Miss Pennington, but feels that even Miss Pennington wouldn't understand. She could handle the pressures in Sparta because she had home to retreat to. She admits to herself that.....
