Chapter 5 "You the Man" Summary

Vance wants to have a serious talk with Hoyt about the event at the Grove. Hoyt knows that Vance is scared and rather than listening, he lets his mind wander. He is taking a course on Europe in the Middle Ages and his professor has told them that there were only three classes of people: warriors, clergy, and slaves. Most times the leader was a warrior. He thinks about his dad who had been in an elite force in the military and was in finances in New York. Then, as it turned out, his father was a con man who disappeared and was never seen again. Hoyt had to leave the private school he was in for public school. Before he left, his father taught him to defend himself. He taught him to fight and be left alone.
