Chapter 3 "The Mermaid Blushed" Summary

Charlotte's parents drive her to Dupont in their pickup truck. It is a ten-hour trip and they arrive in the Little Yard to find a mass of students, parents, and boxes. Her father refuses help because he doesn't want to have to pay a tip. Charlotte's room is on the fifth floor. They bring her stuff up to her room and meet her roommate. They are relieved to discover that her roommate is also from a small town, but they soon discover the reality: her roommate's father is the CEO of a major company and had flown the family in on his jet. Her roommate's name is Beverly and she is completely different from Charlotte. She arrives with a massive load of boxes and suitcases and she has a computer.....
