Can Love Survive Through the Decades?

The central image of the story is the love between Jamie MacKenzie Fraser of the 1700s and Claire Randall Fraser of the 1900s. There are vast differences between not only the two characters, but their surroundings as well. Claire's adaption is to be commended. The manner in which people live their day-to-day lives is significantly different. There are differences in the way they bath, prepare meals and beverages, do laundry, and raise children, not to mention the medical care in which Claire is accustomed and the means of travel.

On the other hand, Jamie is not accustomed to the manner in which Claire acts toward her husband. The men of his time lead and the woman follows. Claire likes to lead and speak her mind and will not stand for being punished at the hand of her husband.
