Claire Randall (Fraser)

Claire is the novel's main character. The story is the continuation of the story from the first book, "The Highlander." Claire walks through the standing stones at the Highlands of Scotland and is transported back in time from 1945 to 1743. She finds her sanity and her nursing skills put to the test as she survives this time trying to return to the standing stones so that she may go back to her own time. The world around her is completely different than she is used to and she has to find a means of survival. Through her nursing skills she makes a place for herself among the clans and townspeople of Scotland.

Claire is left in her uncle's care at the age of five after her parents die in an automobile accident. Claire was raised abroad as her uncle traveled. He home taught her, so her knowledge...
