Part 5, Chapter 36 Summary

It is September in Scotland, in 1745. Jamie and Claire head off to battle. Jamie asks her to remember what she read as a child and tell him again. She remembers very little, but the battle is fought near the town of Preston and is called the Battle of Prestonpans. The Scots win.

They stop for the evening. There are thirty men traveling with Jamie and Claire. One young man is full of lice. He scratches everywhere. The men joke about the removal of lice by fire and tell the lad to lift his kilt and stand over the fire. They all laugh. As Claire combs Jamie's hair to check for lice he is approached from behind by a young English boy. The boy believes Claire has been taken hostage by the Scots and intends to rescue her.
