Part 2, Chapter 8 Summary

Claire continues to mind Jared's home. She feels she is of little help. The only thing she does is open doors when needed with the keys she was given charge of (the cellar door, the wine door, the linen closet, etc.) She entertains every night to the nobles, chevaliers, and ladies. Jamie goes away each morning with Murtagh to attend to the wine industry, unloading ships and making deliveries, etc.

Claire is bored with just holding dinner parties, so Jamie brings her in to copy the ledger entries. Mr. Silas Hawkins comes in and orders two tons of Flemish brandy. Mr. Hawkins also mentions that his niece, Mary, is aboard the Arabella and is to be married. Mary has no knowledge of this marriage, but Mr. Hawkins explains that it will benefit the family, as she is to be wed to...
