Summary

Chapter 27 returns to Clearsight's perspective. Clearsight has nightmares and wakes with a headache. When she rises, she discovers her earrings (the gift from Darkstalker) are half off, and she adjusts them. She soon encounters Queen Vigilance and Allknowing. When Clearsight joins them, the queen is obviously angry. Allknowing has had a vision of the queen's death at Darkstalker's hand. Clearsight tries to argue but Queen Vigilance says Clearsight is too “enchanted” by Darkstalker to see the situation clearly. Clearsight suddenly realizes she has worn the earrings ever since Darkstalker gave them to her. The moment she removes them, she is flooded by visions. The visions are so clear that Clearsight knows Queen Vigilance sent the dragon to kill Darkstalker because of Allknowing's visions. She says Queen Vigilance is causing Darkstalker's reaction.
