Summary
In “Day Three: “Borrowdale, Grasmere, Glenridding,” “The Vow of Silence,” over a solitary breakfast, Michael looks forward to walking the rest of the trail alone. Cleo joins him and asks about Natasha, but he dismisses the conversation. After Cleo and Anthony leave, Michael returns to the trail, where he runs into Marnie and decides not to ignore her.
In “Dorothy Wordsworth,” dreading “the long drive to York” with Cleo, Marnie decides to continue walking instead of going home (131). She runs into Michael and they make jokes and chat about work, depression, and aging along the way. At “the crest of [a] hill,” they stop and remark on the view (137).
In “Stegosaur,” Marnie and Michael take a break at a bar. Over drinks, Marnie tells Michael about her job and current assignment. Back outside, they feel better hiking while drunk...
