Summary
Bo cannot get a hold of Ture, and while looking in the mirror he thinks, “I feel a sudden fondness for the old man in the mirror. It’s not bloody easy, being human” (254). He eventually has to call Hans and tell him about Ture. Hans argues with people on the phone to get information about Ture, and Bo is proud of Hans’s assertiveness and his understanding. Bo starts to cry knowing he will never speak to his friend again. Johanna leaves a note saying that Hans has reported Ture’s death.
On Saturday, September 16, Hans comes to pick up Bo for the funeral. Bo thinks about the embarrassment he sometimes felt over Frederika’s odd behavior around Ture and about how sometimes others would look away from the man. Bo wishes he would never see these beautiful hills again...
