Summary

Chapter 20 is told from Celie’s perspective. She has found out that everybody in the school, even the most rejected kids, have been invited to a party but her. Gene comes in, and she rudely tries to get him to leave, but he will not leave. She tells him that she does not know how to make kids include her again because she does not know what it is that she did wrong.

Gene and Celie go to the Heath, and Gene explains to her that he understands body language, and she gives off the body language of a defeated person with her shoulders slumped. This lets the mean girls know that they are getting to her. He explains that kids act meanly because they are unhappy in their own lives, and they find reprieve when they make other kids feel bad...
