Summary

Lila has a photograph still in her home of her daughters, Celie and Violet, and her ex-husband, Dan, from before he left them for Marja, a younger mother from Violet’s school. Life got more difficult when her mother, Francesca, passed away. Bill, Francesca’s second husband, moved in with Lila and her daughters to help her get adjusted to her new life. This morning she has an emergency plumber come out. She believes most people, like the plumber, up-charge her because they see her Mercedes out front.

She recently wrote a book about how she and her husband had made their marriage water-tight. It was recently after the publication of the book that she found out he was leaving her. Her agent Anoushka is hounding her for the draft of her next book. One day at Violet’s school pick-up, teacher...
