Wallace Price

Wallace Price is the protagonist and the character that the narration follows. At the very beginning of the novel, he is a selfish and highly unpleasant man who cares only for himself and his business. He pushes aside anyone that gets in his way without stopping to consider their own feelings or problems. After his death, however, Wallace realizes how terrible of a person he was in life and struggles to become better as a ghost. While he does struggle with this initially, his experiences with Hugo, Nelson, and Mei show him how to be more empathetic and celebrate the joys of others as much as one's own accomplishments. By the end, Wallace is a well-rounded individual who finds his purpose in helping Hugo in his ferryman duties and gets a second chance to make new meaning out of his life.
