Summary

In Chapter 111, Shehyn tested Kvothe about the Lethani. She appointed Vashet as Kvothe’s new teacher in the ways of the Ketan.

In Chapter 112, Kvothe met Vashet. Vashet requested that Kvothe find a piece of wood. She used the branch he found to hit him. She said that she viewed Kvothe as a barbarian and did not think he was worthy to attend the school in Haert. At lunch, Carceret, an Adem mercenary who loathed Kvothe, tried to intimidate him. Later, Kvothe resumed his lessons with Vashet. He showed Vashet the welts on his back from all the whippings he received at the University.

In Chapter 113, Kvothe and Vashet talked to dispel the tension between them. Vashet shared that she grew up in a different city, which was more cosmopolitan and less formal than Haert. She could speak Aturan, Kvothe’s language, fluently...
