Summary

In Chapter 31, Kvothe felt that all aspects of his life were better with his lute back in his possession. He visited Simmon in the alchemy complex. Simmon showed Kvothe his creation, which was the formation of an extra layer of skin that insulates extreme heat. He explained how the alchemical invention worked.

In Chapter 32, Kvothe met up with his friends, adorning an iron disk under his sleeve. Fela used wax and ash with Kvothe’s blood absorbed into it to craft a doll of Kvothe. His friend Mola used a binding spell and tested pricking the doll with a pin. Kvothe could feel where his friend prodded the doll on his own body. Kvothe mentioned his altercation with Devi. The friends departed to sleep before the events they had planned for the following day.
