Green Oak, North Carolina

Green Oak, North Carolina is the overall setting for the majority of the novel. Andrew sends Adalyn to Green Oak to oversee a “philanthropic initiative” he sponsors there. The town is fairly small in a rural setting. There are several important settings in this town and the surrounding area that play an important role in Adalyn's life. For example, Adalyn and Cam attend a community event near the lake.

Lazy Elk

Lazy Elk is the name of the estate that Cameron is renting in Green Oak. The main building is a very nice lodge that Cameron is already inhabiting when Adalyn arrives, leaving Adalyn to stay in a “cottage” that is little more than a shack. Adalyn initially insists on staying in this shack mainly to prove that she can survive in the minimalist location.
