Summary

Chapter 20 is from Cameron's perspective. The girls are disheartened after losing their second game. Cameron urges them to be pleased that they worked so hard. A couple of girls feel they are wasting their time. As they continue to whine, Cameron tells them to toughen up. Though Adalyn knows Cameron is terrible at this, she does not know how to make it better. Tony suggests sno-cones and runs off to get some. During the following conversation, Tony reveals that his mother recently died. When he then says he is saving for college, Adalyn suggests he become Cameron's assistant. Cameron is surprised when he offers Adalyn a bite of his sno-cone and she accepts. Maria says, “So coach Cornfield … How are the curmudgeons on your butt?” (203).
