Injustice

Injustice is a central theme in the novel and the primary antagonist that El fights against throughout the story. El lives in a magical world where witches and wizards live hidden amongst humans. However, they are also plagued by monsters—or mals—that only eat magical beings, but are especially attracted to teens aged 13-18. Because of this, wizards banded together to create enclaves, which are groups of wizards who combine their powers to become more powerful. Centuries ago, all the most powerful enclaves banded together to create the Scholomance, a school for their children to attend in relative safety compared to the outside world.
