Summary

In Chapter 39, at the hotel, Lacy entered and left Gunther in the car. He entered the hotel a few minutes later through a side door and went up the stairs. When Lacy knocked on what she believed was the door to Jeri’s room, the lights went out. Lacy heard Bannick come out of the door behind her and hollered just as Gunther ran down the hallway, knocking them both down. Bannick managed to escape with his laptop when he stunned Gunther by kicking him in the face.

In the lobby later, Lacy was unable to get in touch with Jeri. She told Gunther she feared Jeri was in trouble. She called Vidovich and told him she thought Bannick had set them up.

Bannick tried to keep himself from speeding as he drove away from the hotel. He had never been ambushed and...
