Summary

Part II begins with Chapter 38 and shifts to Nina and the first-person narrator. Nina is at a hotel thinking about how Nina got away from Andrew. Nina reveals step one of her plan: “How to Get Rid of Your Sadistic, Evil Husband” (193). Step one refers to how Nina got pregnant with Cecelia from a one-night stand. Nina remembers working an office job and being called into her boss’s office and her milk leaking. Stewart, Nina's boss, yells at Nina to clean herself up. Andrew witnesses it and apologizes on Stewart’s behalf. Andrew takes Nina out for lunch and invites Nina on a date, explaining that his mother Evelyn would be happy to watch Cecelia.

In Chapter 39, Nina reveals that Andrew was previously engaged to Kathleen. Nina and Andrew’s relationship moves quickly, and they get married. Nina finds Evelyn cold. Nina...
