Summary

In 1961 Alice opens Peter’s door, and he is asleep in there with Delphine. She considers confronting them, but the only woman she knows who got a divorce moved away and is no longer a part of their society. She wonders if it was her naive nature that made Peter fall in love with her because she would not suspect such a thing. She will lose her whole life if she confronts them, so she leaves. Intoxicated, she tells the group that she wants to take Peter out on the boat, but Peter II insists that he is going to take Bear today. Alice gives in so as not to place her son between the two of them. She goes to the boathouse.
