Summary

Part Two is titled Burn's Stronghold. In Chapter 9, Sunny is horrified by the sight and smell of decapitated dragons and blood on the walls. She understands Addax's reason for kidnapping her, even as she reminds herself he is dooming her to a horrible fate. She notices that extra walls have been built. Dragons could simply fly over and Sunny believes these walls are specifically meant to keep scavengers out. Addax talks his way past sentries, then greets Smolder, Burn's brother. Sunny is impressed that he speaks to her directly. He reveals the warring sisters had three brothers but “the other two made the wrong dragons mad” (92) so that only Smolder remains. Burn is out fighting. Smolder sends Addax to the barracks and takes Sunny. He immediately begins to talk through what he should do with her. He considers killing her outright to ensure...
