Summary

Section 19. Harry has spent the night in Brewer. He went to Ruth’s apartment, but she was not there. He ended up staying in a hotel. He spent the day wondering around Brewer, something keeping him from going home. Harry realizes it is a feeling that somewhere there is something better for him.

Harry returns to Mt. Judge in a daze. Mrs. Springer shuts the door in his face when he knocks at the Springers’ door. Eccles comes to the door and lets him in. Janice has been given a sedative and is asleep.

Mr. Springer tells Harry they blame him for the baby’s death, but he is not the only one to blame. However, life must go on and they consider him family. Harry appreciates this offer after everything he has done.
