Summary

Ruth wants Harry to stay because he made her feel good about herself. She knew, however, he would always go back to his wife. Ruth knew he was not hers, but knowing this does not change how she feels about him.

Analysis

Ruth realizes she is in love with Harry, but that he is not hers. He has his good qualities and when he shows these qualities she feels his love for her. She knows though his wife has a firmer hold on Harry and she was always there in his mind. Ruth knows she has lost Harry and she is upset by the loss.
