Chapters 13-15 Summary

Chapter 13. Shadow. Plain Kate witnesses Linay feeding blood to her shadow. After thinking on it for a time, Plain Kate decides to steal her shadow back. However, when she opens the box and her shadow surrounds her, it causes her to go numb and have trouble breathing. Then the light begins to break the shadow apart, causing a similar effect on her. Taggle finally manages to cry tears into the box where the shadow is kept, calling it back inside. This saves Plain Kate's life. Plain Kate wakes later outside where Linay has carried. Linay scolds her for her attempt and warns her it will kill her next time. Later, when Plain Kate asks Linay about the fog, he admits that he has created it.
