Chapters 4-6 Summary

Chapter 4. The Roamers. Plain Kate discovers that her cat, Taggle, can now speak. It is a gift the witch gave to her for her shadow. Plain Kate returns to the town to give a completed objarka to Niki. When Niki realizes she is leaving town, he decides to send her to the Roamers so that she will not have to travel alone. Niki introduces Plain Kate to Behjet, one of the horse wranglers who travels with the Roamers. Behjet introduces Plain Kate to Daj, the elder female of the group, who agrees to allow Plain Kate to travel with them. When Niki leaves, Plain Kate volunteers to help with the striking of the camp.
