Chapters 38 through 44 Summary

In Chapter 38, there are now nine fish in the special pool surrounding the trunk. They move only enough to remain in the pool of special water. They are slowly changing. They are not human, but neither are they fish. They grow their pectoral fins out into distinct arms with fingers, and their dorsal fins shrink into their bodies as they elongate. Their heads separate from their trunks, and their eyes move closer together.

In Chapter 39, after a sad attempt a milking the cow, Richard succeeded in angering the cow enough for her to rip the door off of the brig wall. Little Richard and Slank quietly tie up the crew and arm themselves. Then, Richard launches a dory and they head to shore to go after Black Stache.
