Chapters 14 through 19 Summary

In Chapter 14, Peter approaches Alf and tells him that he has a plan to find out what is in the trunk. Alf tells Peter that this is a terrible idea. Slank is angry about John falling asleep on guard duty, and had him whipped. Now, the guard will be more wary. Slank also said that if he finds out who was in the hold, or if he catches anyone else in there, that he'll feed them to the sharks. Peter explains to Alf that his life is hardly worth living as it is, and that it seems it will be worse when they reach Rundoon. Peter sees this as his only chance, and he is going to try. Alf is touched by his words and agrees to help him.
