Appearances Matter
Kate knows that appearances matter. Kate is a performer, and she has no problem describing herself as such. Her performances are not for her own glorification, however; she performs in order to rally people for her political causes. She knows her words are powerful. After all, she wrote a book. Even more so, she knows that seeing hate is more powerful than anything she could say.
Kate first demonstrates this after Corrie is attacked with bleach. She wants to take a picture of Corrie while she is at her most injured and disheveled so that people can actually see what happened to her. This makes the impact more personal and less academic. Additionally, she wants Corrie to come on stage so that the audience can see who the attack was waged against. She knows this will touch her audience.
