Part One, Chapter 2 Summary

Upon Jamie's confession, chaos breaks out. Several women who have gathered around the truck faint, while one man punches Jamie in the nose. When Cam sends his deputy over to check the woman's pulse, Jamie pushes the deputy out of the way and refuses to allow him to touch her. Allie, who followed Cam across the street, tries to comfort Jamie by promising that she will stay with his wife until her body can be dealt with properly. Jamie thanks her and allows Cam to place him under arrest.

Cam takes Jamie into the police station and asks him to explain his confession. When Jamie tells Cam that he smothered his wife with a pillow at the local hotel, Cam feels he has no choice but to place Jamie under arrest. Jamie continues his story, claiming that his wife...
