Point of View

The novel is told in the first-person point-of-view through the eyes of Magnus Chase, a young man who was taken to Valhalla after a heroic death in the previous book. This creates a very personal feeling to the novel as the reader experiences everything directly through Magnus. As a narrator, Magnus is very sarcastic and often talks directly to the audience. For example, when chasing the goat-killer, Magnus tells the reader about his sword that he calls Jack. Magnus says, “I should introduce my sword. Jack, these are the peeps. Peeps, this is Jack” (14). First, this shows how relaxed Magnus is with the idea of having an audience calling them a very casual term.
