Summary

The next chapter is titled “2004, Boise, Idaho.” Lucky takes online courses, earns several additional certifications, and opens an office above the garage of their house. Cary stays at home, claiming to be happy as a “househusband.” Lucky suggests they have a baby but time passes and she is unable to become pregnant. Cary begins looking at property to open a restaurant. They manage to buy a building, but Cary then wants to expand. He convinces Lucky to use money from the investment accounts, promising to return it once the restaurant begins to make a profit. Lucky assures herself it won't hurt anyone because she has plenty of money in other accounts for any payouts. A year later, she begins in vitro fertilization, taking money from her clients' accounts to pay for it. They are so heavily in debt that they cannot slow down...
