Summary

Chapter 11 picks up in 2008 with Lucky arriving at Priscilla's shelter. It is a large yellow house surrounded by a fence with small units where the women live. She gives her fake name and claims she has no identification. She fills out paper and a woman assigns her to unit 12. A woman named Janet talks to Jean at dinner. When Priscilla arrives, she gives a talk Lucky compares to a sermon. Priscilla has a dog with her. Lucky recognizes the dog as Betty, and Betty obviously recognizes Lucky.

The next chapter is titled “September 1999, San Francisco, California.” Cary begins pretending to be a student at Stanford and has invited wealthy “friends” over to celebrate Lucky's birthday.
