Summary

Chapter 22 returns to 2018 with the women settling in at Benscombe, which looks as if it has not been touched since Constance died. They clean and buy food and supplies. They tack wrapping paper on a wall. The markers they bought in town are “Barbie knock-offs in violent, sparkling rainbow shades” (209). Mary Alice is critical of the markers, saying it makes their revenge plans look like “a kindergarten craft project.” Knowing they are all tired and cranky, Billie urges them to have ice cream and wine while they work on details. Billie notes that the candlelight and fire make the room seem different. They know Gunther is a creature of habit. By the next morning, they have a plan. Mary Alice plans to take the lead.
